The world of mobile applications is constantly evolving and involves every possible sector. This time it’s art that becomes accessible to everyone and does so for free thanks to the novelty Magnus, an app capable of recognizing artworks and explaining them just like Shazam does for music.

If an app like Shazam completely changed our way of learning about and discovering music through listening to a track via the microphone of our smartphone, now our culture and passion for art can also benefit from this transformation offered by technology.

Very often when visiting a museum or exploring cities, you don’t have all the useful information to deeply understand and admire artworks, especially when approaching contemporary art. This task can partly be fulfilled by an application like Magnus, recently launched on the digital market in the United States by a young German startupper. It is a true revolution in the world of art and technology with the simple and noble aim of making contemporary art accessible to all, with the only requirement being to own a new generation cell phone capable of downloading apps.

THE INVENTOR OF MAGNUS

The application is the product of the ingenuity of the entrepreneur Magnus Resch who wishes to make art accessible and democratic, allowing everyone to access information related to this enchanting sector in a simple and intuitive way. Mr. Magnus Resch’s democratization effort aims to bring more and more people closer to the art world and at the same time to expand the circle of potential art collectors.

Magnus Resch is a young entrepreneur of German origin, 31 years old. He is not only a businessman, but also a writer, lecturer, and art expert. At only twenty, Magnus Resch collaborated in managing a gallery in Switzerland during his university path. Later he co-founded Larry’s List, began writing about the art market, and teaching at prestigious universities. At 27, he became CEO of Springstar from which several startups emerged, some successful and others less so. Today he launches his new app dedicated to contemporary art. An eclectic man and deeply passionate about art who, despite his young age, has brought many people closer to the sector and continues to do so.

THE CONTENT OF MAGNUS

For the creation of this mobile application, the team of professionals built the largest contemporary art database currently available. In this way, the prices of the most important artworks of the moment are available to anyone for free, unlike what has happened so far. Most galleries have always tried to keep an artwork’s price hidden, whereas now the figure is accessible to all potential buyers. Obviously, prices of works considered priceless and those not available on the market are not published. The purpose of Magnus is not to intermediate the sale of artworks but simply to provide detailed information on prices and the work itself. Prices were collected thanks to crowdsourcing by users who provided information, later verified by Magnus’s startup team.

To date, the art recognition app covers more than 8 million subjects. Each artwork is presented with reference data including the title, type, artist’s name and a short biography, complete description, location, and price.

HOW MAGNUS WORKS

The app Magnus works simply: just take a photo of an artwork with your smartphone through the app and in a few seconds all available information on the painting or sculpture is provided: title, description, artist’s name, price, and other important details.

The information captured through the Magnus app can then be shared via major social networks and messaging services like Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp to easily spread data and images with friends, relatives, and collaborators.

The app also includes an interactive map that allows locating all nearby art galleries and museums, as well as ongoing exhibitions, openings, and visiting hours.

WHERE MAGNUS IS AVAILABLE

The Magnus app is currently available in New York City, a very thriving metropolis from the contemporary art perspective. In the coming weeks, other important art cities such as London, Paris, Berlin, and Hong Kong will be reached.

Magnus’s arrival in Italy, the cradle of art, is also planned for the future, where it would be very useful to awaken artistic passion among Italians.
